If you missed it, we wrote Part I of this series and you can learn all about UX, what it means, and how to get to know your users right >here<.
This time, we are going to dive into the guts, and look at Strategy.
Form A Strategy
The best designers I know (judging by end results) are the ones focused on strategy. Often they aren't worried about the number of revisions, mockups, etc. but are focused on making the best experience for their customer's online presence. Be assured, these designers are up to snuff when it comes to graphic design, code, and all the intricate design-y details. The difference here is they choose to be thoughtful in each piece of the puzzle that will impact an online brand. A good place to form a strategy is to start with knowledge, not assumptions. In the world of the internet, this information, either design related or otherwise, is typically available for free if you are willing to look for it and learn from it. That being said, as a designer, I want to echo what we all think from time to time. Trust your designer. If you have spent the time & resources to invest in vetting and using one, listen to them, get their feedback, and listen. The strategists will see the big picture and help you put all the pieces together.
A great place to start with your own strategy is to ask yourself the following questions. Remember execution of a website or blog can be quick, but a good strategy is worth the time.
Speed, accuracy, and past experience are essential for deciding if you should go DIY or hire a Design Partner. And then it will help you find the best fit in the end! Have you built your site yourself? Worked with a designer you adore? Let us know in the comments below!
