_MG_2901The thing that is so awe-inspiring about the Showiteer community is their desire to work hard to pursue their dreams. Several juggle a 9 to 5 while working toward their goal of being self-employed full-time. Mistry and Scott are no different. In fact, they work so hard, one has to wonder when they sleep!

Prior to even starting the business in 2012, the couple wanted to ensure they had put in the work to earn the title of “Professional Photographer.” They feel it is important to not only love photography, but to become so familiar with the art-form, it becomes second nature. _MG_0001Obviously, the first thing would be to master the technical aspects of the camera and learn to take pictures that commensurate with a professional. This takes time and a lot of practice. Learn the fundamentals and master the camera before moving on to all the other aspects of running a successful photography studio. Once your skills are on point with photography, you can tackle business, marketing, vendor relations, client relations, pricing, etc….”
Ashley-299-1After they felt they had the proper skills in their arsenal, they started to work on gaining the experience they needed. “Our business started by shooting any and everything (portraits, kids sports teams, real estate, etc…) but soon we realized that we loved weddings and HS Seniors more than anything else.” The husband and wife team felt this would be the factor to refine their own style. “We have focused through each challenge on becoming educated and through persistent practice on our art. We are now focused mostly on consistency within our portfolio both in our shooting processes and our editing workflows.”

While photography has always been a love, like most parents, they put their creative pursuits aside while focusing on their kids and making a living. Together, Misty and Scott have two teen boys that take center-stage in their lives, and very often, their extra-curricular activities end up taking the whole stage! While juggling their schedule, two full-time jobs, and a small business, they knew something had to give if they wanted their small business to succeed. _MG_7368The path from aspiring photographer to making the business self-sustaining hasn't been easy and there have been many struggles that we've endured to get to where we are today. When we made the decision for Mistry to leave her teaching position to pursue the business full time, we had a lot of anxiety about losing her income and wondered whether, or how long it might take to replace it. Ultimately we decided to take that leap because we knew that without making that leap and having her put her full focus into our business (instead of spending 50 hours a week in the classroom and then coming home exhausted) that likely we would never see the kind of growth in the business that we were both hoping for! _MG_0414There were (and still are) a few stressful nights wondering if we were going to make it another month but it has been amazing to see the business grow and prosper with her focus and dedication towards it.

From that vantage point, Mistry and Scott are both so dedicated to the craft and focused on the success of their small business, we know good things are to come for this husband and wife team! To follow along with their story, join them on Facebook and Instagram. We look forward to celebrating with them every small and large victory along the way!
