All creative entrepreneurs are motivated to start out on their own for different reasons. For Paulette Brockenbrough, it was the desire to capture moments in time for people to revisit for years to come. “I remember glancing up at the sky and just saying to myself, “How can I continue to relive this moment for years to come?” I just developed my love for photography at that point. It wasn't long before I realized I could capture these moments for other's, as well.”
Capture Your Beauty Photography was founded by Paulette and her husband, Kirk, a little over 5 years ago. While their small business focuses on wedding photography and cinematography, they do not limit themselves to the wedding industry. “Believe it or not, both my husband and I have a love for children and were social workers. This is why even though we specialize in weddings we still enjoy shooting maternity and newborn sessions.” To Paulette, there is no moment that is too small to not be captured in it's best possible light.
In all of Paulette's images, the onlooker gathers the sense of not only the trust the client has in her, but the fun and joy that she brings to her work. There is a playfulness to many of her images that conveys the energy she gives to her clients, and they, in return, are more than willing to give back.
Passion is just one of the things Paulette believes sets successful creative businesses apart from the average small business. When she was asked what advice Capture Your Beauty Photography has for other's just starting out, she pointed toward great self-marketing. “Our advice would simply be that a show case of your work can never be cut short . It is imperative to have a GREAT website and way for your future customers to canvas your work. What we all create is an art, treat it that way.”
Paulette goes on to point to those in the industry that they have looked to for advice and inspiration. “We have a true respect for photographers like Jasmine Star, Zach and Jody, Cliff Mautner and Tony Gambino. These photographers are not just great and innovative photographers, but phenomenal marketers of their businesses. The combination of having a product that no one else can duplicate, paired with the ability to market that product effectively creates a dynamic brand.”
While marketing skills can be learned from those that went before you, passion is not. If you are just starting out, you should know Paulette ranks the passion for your field of business as the number one thing that makes a successful business. “Sometimes it is difficult to make your dreams a reality. We have been blessed to find our passion and chosen profession all in one place.”
We are so thankful to have Paulette as our Featured Showiteer. And even more grateful that she is willing to take the time to share her experiences with us. If you know someone who passionate about what they are doing in the creative world, let's feature them here! Just drop us a line.
