Blogs. As photographers, most of us have them, and if we don't, we feel guilty that we don't. If we do have them, but never write on them, we feel even worse!

I think that one of the reasons it is so difficult for us to be consistent bloggers as photographers is simply this: because there are so many blogs and web sites about photography, (and beautiful images, and how to use flash, and how to win clients, etc. etc. etc.,) it can be intimidating to distinguish your blog from all of the others, so we just don't try.

We are told the key to building and maintaining a blog that will capture the interest and attention of the blogging community is finding your niche. The experts tell us to fill a unique need in a way that no other blog does, and in that way you'll be able to build a lasting readership among web surfers. As a photographers, that seems merely impossible when there are hundreds, possibly thousands, of photography blogs floating around in the internet world competing with ours. There are many great sites aimed at today's bloggers, and competition for the attention of this growing demographic is fierce. But, there is a very easy way to make your blog stand out from the pack. You just need to offer something that no other site is currently offering- YOU! Many people agree that the blogs that do the best in today's market are the sites that have the most personality, and NO ONE has your personality! The fiercely individual surfers who are bloggers, are a demographic that responds especially strongly to personality, and we all have one of those. In fact, we all have a unique personality, that's all our own, like no one else's.[pullquote] No one can be you, but you.[/pullquote]

Do you love pink and all things bling? Let that shine through on your blog. Do you own 12 dogs, and 8 cats, talk about them, and share pictures of their antics? Is going to Greece hold the top spot on your bucket list? Write about it, plan the trip and share all of your adventures in the planning, preparing, and dreaming. In writing your blog in this way, 3 things will happen:

1. You will find that it is easier to make yourself actually sit down and blog. After all, you're just talking about things you love, things you enjoy doing, things that make you, you. Who doesn't like to talk about themselves? It's so much easier than trying to be something we're not. People see right through that any way, and no one wants to read a blog that seems disingenuous.
2. As you share with the blogging world who you are, you're actually infusing your blog with your personality, and it will attract others with similar personalities. Why is this important? Your followers become your fans and your future clients. Who doesn't want clients whose world's beat to the same drum? That's a no brainer.
3. When you start to write about things that make you who you are, Google is watching, listening. It takes notice of key words, words that are repeated, and sends folks that are searching for those things your way. Ta-da! More fans, more future clients! (Didn't I say this was a no brainer?)

So, you want a unique blog that no one else has? Then just be you. After all, you're the only one that can be!! Now go write a post!
