Hugs

Whether this is your first United or your seventh, by now you've probably figured out that people here don't wave, shake hands, or pat each other on the back. We hug. That's not a cutesy thing that just started happening, it's an intentional culture that we've worked hard to create at this conference. Why? Waving, shaking hands, patting someone on the back – those are all friendly things to do, but hugs communicate warmth. They communicate that a person is safe and welcome. I want every person who comes to United to feel those things, and so I'm going to be sure to hug every person I meet. So will our team of employees, our team of volunteers, and most alumni of this conference. We hope you'll "embrace" this culture of hugging.
